ITTF HongKong Junior Open - Quarter Final Finish for Pang & Li

Despite many strong nations sending their players to the annual ITTF HongKong Junior Open, Team Singapore managed to achieve remarkable results. Pang Xuejie and Li Siyun Isabelle made it to the quarter finals of the Junior Boys' and Girls' Singles event respectively before losing to table tennis powerhouse China. Pang partnered Chew Zheyu Clarence in the Junior Boys' Doubles event to a quarter final finish as well.

In the Boys' Singles Event, Pang defeated Japan's Ryuzaki Tonin in the 2nd round 4-3. In the quarter finals, he met eventual champion and China's Zhou Qihao. Pang took the first set but lost the next four. He lost 11-8, 5-11, 7-11, 9-11, 7-11. Youth Olympic Silver Medalist Isabelle fought hard against Hu Limei of China, but faltered 6-11, 1-11, 7-11, 8-11. She beat host nation's Ng Ka Yee 4-1.

Meanwhile in the Junior Boys' Doubles event, Pang and Clarence received a walkover in the first round and defeated HongKong's Wong Ka Ho and Yau Sing Ho in the second. However, they found the pairing of Chinese Taipei's Hsu Chia-Liang and Lai Yi-Yao too strong. The Singaporean youths faltered 2-3.

Being the only Singaporean female representive, Isabelle paired with Chinese Taipei's Tsui Pao-Wen in the Junior Girls' Doubles Event. They were the top seeds for the event. However, due to the lack of practice together and mutual understanding, the lost in the first round to Japan's Ishikawa Rira and Morita Ayane by the narrowest margin of 2-3.

Our paddlers will be taking a break before heading to South Korea.
