Women's World Cup - More Intense Than Previous Years
The annual Women's World Cup is back. This year, it will be held in the city of Guangzhou offering US$150,000 in prize money. The traditional world title event introduces a new format this year. The umber of players is increased from 16 to 19. Beside the World Cup title holder and six continental representatives, the top 11 players are invited according to the September World Ranking plus the world’s No.1 junior (U-18) player completes the list as one of the Wild Card selections.

Singapore will be represented by 2 of our best players - Feng Tianwei and Wang Yuegu. Li Jiawei will have to give this prestigious event a miss owing to her pregnancy.

Other players participating in the events include China's Guo Yue, World Cup Holder Li Xiaoxia, Liu Shiwen, Hong Kong's Tie Yana, Jiang Huajun and Republic of Korea's Kim Kyung Ah, Park Mi Young. In addition, the Continental Champions has also been invited.

Feng Tianwei's best result in tis event was during last year, when she defeated colleague Wang Yuegu to clinch Bronze. Wang Yuegu's best result was also from last year, where she clinched the 4th position.
