ITTF Pro Tour China Open - Teenager Causes Major Opening Round Shock
The winner on the ITTF Pro Tour earlier in the year in March at the Indian Open and, in late May, the runner up in the Women’s Singles event at the Commonwealth Championships in Glasgow; 19 year old Yu Meng Yu caused the shock of the day at the Harmony China Open in Suzhou.

In the opening round of the Women’s Singles event, she caused the sensation of the day by ousting China’s Guo Yan, the no.3 seed and winner of the Women’s Singles title at the Volkswagen Pro Tour Grand Finals in Macao in December 2008, to book her place in round two. Yu Meng Yu who came through the qualification event successfully recorded a very impressive six games victory. She won 11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7.

Feng Tianwei was in unforgiving mood as well. She beat Chinese Taipei's Lin Chia-Hui to book another place in the 2nd round. However, Sun Bei Bei was the casualty. She lost to South Korean Choi Moon Young. Feng will be aiming to take revenge for Bei Bei tomorrow, while Yu will be taking on South Korean Defender Park Mi Young.

Although our Male paddlers did not make it to the 3rd round, but it was good learning experience. All lost to higher ranked Chinese players. Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Yang Zi lost to Top Seed Ma Long in the 1st and 2nd round respectively. Meanwhile, Tay Jit Kai was defeated by Olympic Champion Ma Lin. Both Chew and Tay feel that they will be able to achieve better results in the coming Asian Youth Games.

Ma Liang, Liu Zhong Ze and Singaporean Pang Xue Jie also perished in he 1st round. Pang lost to Poland's Kosowski Jakub while Ma Liang and Zhong Ze were no match against Keinath Thomas and Jiang Tianyi respectively.
