ITTF Pro Tour Indian Open - Black Sunday for Singaporean Paddlers

Upsets and more upsets was the order of play of the Indian Open for our paddlers.

Earlier the day before, South Korea's Seo Hyun Deok partnered Lee Sang Su to deny Gao Ning and Yang Zi in the doubles final. The Top Seeds - Gao and Yang faltered 4-2.

That Sunday morning, Seo Hyun Deok was the harbinger of gloom for the Singapore team. Seo foiled Gao Ning in the Men's Singles semi-finals, beating Gao Ning 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 15-17, 11-9, 11-6.

Later in the afternoon, 25-year-old Japanese paddler Sayaka Hirano stood in way of the Yu in the women's open singles final, with Hirano winning 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7.

What proved to be the silver lining was Yu's win in the finals of the U21 Singles Event which she dumped Japan's Kasumi Ishikawa 4-1.
