ITTF Pro Tour Japan Open - Revenge for Yu Meng Yu
Yu Meng Yu clinch her 2nd Gold Medal in 2 weeks after beating host nation's Misako Wakamiya. She was the lady that denied Meng Yu an entrance to the 2nd round of the Women Singles. The match ended in a thrilling 7 games encounter, with Yu Meng Yu prevailing 8-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5.

Meanwhile, Sun Bei Bei, the no. 3 seed in the Women Singles Event accounted for the very same player, Misako Wakamiya, in what proved to be a closely fought seven games duel as well. Sun Bei Bei won 11-7, 7-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-8 to book a place in the Semi Finals. it was their second meeting; the previous occasion was in November 2006 at the Liebherr German Open when Sun Bei Bei won in five games in round one. Earlier on, Sun Bei Bei accounted for Korea’s Park Young Sook in six games. Her Semi-Final opponent is Japan's top female paddler, Hirano Sayaka.

On the other hand, Yang Zi was unable to upset seedings in the Men's Singles Event. 2nd seed, Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov, enjoyed trouble free passages. He overcame Yang Zi in straight games. Yang Zi faltered 4-11, 10-12, 8-11, 8-11.

There were no good news from the Doubles Event as well. Top seeds, Sun Bei Bei/Yu Meng Yu suffered a quarter final defeat at the hands of South Korea's Kim Jung Hyun/Seok Ha Jung. They beat Sun Bei Bei/Yu Meng Yu by the margin of 14-12, 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8. In the Men's counterpart, 2nd seeds, Ma Liang/Yang Zi, suffered a quarter-final defeat at the hands of Portugal’s João Monteiro and Russia’s Alexei Smirnov. The Europeans won 11-2, 11-9, 6-11, 11-5,4-11,11-4.
