This award is the Chamber’s seven—year commitment to help outstanding Singaporean sporting talents, who have demonstrated potential to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic. They each received plaques and a bursary of $3,500.

Pang and Li were also the winners last year. The award should spur them on to make progress so they can hopefully qualify for the London Olympics.

Sun Bei Bei had to settle for Bronze after losing to host nation's Hirano Sayaka. The consistency of Sayaka Hirano was a major telling point in her victory.

ITTF Pro Tour Japan Open - Mixed fortunes for Yu Meng Yu
Yang Zi, the no. 15 seed inflicted pain on the host nation, ending the aspirations of Hiromitsu Kasahara. He won 11-8,11-9,7-11,11-7,11-8. In the next round, his opponent will be 2nd seed, Dimitrij Ovtcharov. Yang Zi met the very same player only once on the ITTF Pro Tour. At that time, he lost to him 4-1.

Meanwhile in the Women's Singles Event, seeds fell like boiling pins in the lower half of the draw. 5th Seed Yu Meng Yu was one of the casualty today. At last week’s Harmony China Open, the Singaporean had caused the biggest upset in the opening round by beating third seed, China’s Guo Yan in six games; one week later the boot was on the other foot. She was the injured party in a first round upset. She was beaten in a close seven games encounter by the host nation’s Misako Wakamiya. Misako Wakamiya won 4-11, 11-9, 11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 11-13, 11-8. Her defeat could be attributed to the fact that she had to play the U21 Girls' Singles Event earlier in the day. That may have caused her fatigue resulting in her fall.

Another player Ma Ming Lu suffered the same fate as well. She lost to Top Seed South Korean Defender Park Mi Young in straight games. Sun Bei Bei is the only women left standing in the event. In the opening round, she beat host nation's Yamamoto Mari 11-9,9-11,11-5,11-7,14-12. She will be awaiting South Korea's Park Young Sook in the 2nd round.

There were further success for Singaporeans in the Men's Doubles and Women's U21 events. 2nd Seeds Yang Zi/Ma Liang ended the hopes of Yuto Muramatsu/Masato Shiono in four straight games. They won by 5 games, 6-11, 11-8, 3-11, 6-11, 8-11. Tomorrow, they will play against Monteiro Joao/Smirnov Alexei. This pair of doubles is made of players from different countries, a Portuguese and a Russian.

On the other hand, Sim Kai Xin Zena/Ma Ming Lu were no match against Japanese Hirano Sayaka/Hiura Reiko. They lost in straight games, 5-11,3-11,2-11,8-11. Top Seed Sun Bei Bei /Yu Meng Yu received a walkover in the opening round. Their first opponent will be South Korea's Kim Jung Hyun/Seok Ha Jung in the Quarter Finals.

In the U21 male event, top seed Ma Liang and Li Zhong Ze both lost to lower ranked opposition. The un-seeded South Korea's Jung Young Sik was in unforgiving mood. He beat Top Seed Ma Liang by the faintest margin of 6-11, 7-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-5, 11-9, 7-11. Liu Zhong Ze was also defeated in similar fashion. He lost to host nation's Kasahara Hiromitsu, 12-10, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 4-11, 4-11, 5-11.

Yu Meng Yu, the Top Seed in the U21 Girls' Event, was in good form. She fought hard into the finals, defeating Chinese Taipei's Hou Yu-Ling, host nation's Morizono Misaki and Fujii Yuko along the way. In the finals, she will face Misako Wakamiya once again. This is the same lady that defeated Yu Meng Yu in the 1st round of the Women Singles Event.

ITTF Pro Tour Japan Open - Lucky Losers for Ma Ming Lu and Zena Sim
Two players plus two “Lucky Losers” progress from each group to the main draw in the Women’s Singles event; a fact of which Ma Ming Lu is very grateful of. She suffered defeat against higher ranked opposition, finishing her group stage matches in the last spot. Against South Korea's Shim Se Rom, she lost 11-4, 11-9, 11-6, 11-6. She then suffered under the hands of host nation's Fujii Yuko, 11-4, 11-7, 11-7, 12-14,11-5. Meanwhile, Sim Kai Xin Zena is not as lucky. She finished in the last spot of her group but the not manage to win the other ticket into the Main Draw. She lost to South Korean Yang Ha Eun in straight games, 11-4, 11-1, 11-3, 11-8. Earlier, she faltered against a Japanese lady, Wakamiya Misako, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3, 11-4,11-5.

Together with 4th and 5th Seed, Sun Bei Bei and Yu Meng Yu, our paddlers manage to secure 3 spots in the Women's Singles Main Draw. Sun Bei Bei's and Yu Meng Yu's will be taking on 2 japanese ladies, Yamamoto Mari and Wakamiya Misako respectively. On the other hand, Ma Ming Lu will be playing against Top Seed, South Korea's Defender Park Mi Young.

It was not a good day for our Men's Team as well. Pang Xue Jie is no match for South Korea's Lee Sang Su and Japan's Takakiwa Taku. He lost 11-7, 11-8, 11-8, 8-11,11-5 and 11-5, 11-5, 11-4, 11-4 to his opponents respectively. Liu Zhong Ze is another unlucky soul. He was defeated by host nation's Matsudaira Kenji and South Korea's Cho Eon Rae. Ma Liang is the only player to enjoy a game of success. He lost to Japan's Kasahara Hiromitsu in the first game. However, he did not let that defeat affect his emotions. 2 hours later, he took Tsuboguchi Michikazu, also from the host nation, in 5 games. He won 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-5,11-9.

Despite attaining 2nd spot in his group, Ma Liang was unable to qualify for the Main Draw, leaving Yang Zi as the sole warrior left in the Men's Singles Event. His 1st opponent will be Japan's Kasahara Hiromitsu, the Japanese who defeated Ma Liang in the group stage.

Our Men's Doubles qualifiers Liu Zhong Ze/Pang Xue Jie were unable to progress any further as well. They lost to Japan's Kasahara Hiromitsu/Tsuboguchi Michikazu, which happen to be in the same group as Ma Liang in the Men's Singles Event. Zhong Ze/Xue Jie lost 9-11,6-11,11-6,5-11. Yang Zi/Ma Liang will be the only pair rpresenting Singapore in the Men's Doubles Event. The 2nd Seeds 1st round opponents are Muramatsu Yuto/Shiono Masato.

Top Seed Sun Bei Bei/Yu Meng Yu will join hands with Sim Kai XIn Zena/Ma Ming Lu in the Women's Doubles Event. Sun Bei Bei/Yu Meng Yu receive a walkover in the first round due to the lack of women doubles participating in the event, while Zena Sim/Ma Ming Lu will have to challenge Japan's Hirano Sayaka/Hiura Reiko. Similar to Zena/Ming Lu, they are also made up of defence and attack players.

ITTF Pro Tour Japan Open - Top Seeds in the Women's Doubles
Despite the absence of our top male and female paddlers Gao Ning, Wang Yue Gu and Feng Tianwei, Singapore is one of the strong medal contenders for the Japan Open. Although it is hard to make a clean sweep with players like South Korea's Joo Se Hyuk and Park Mi Young. Joo and Park are the top seeds for the Men's and Women's Singles Event respectively.

Yang Zi is the only Singaporean to receive a direct qualification into the Men's Singles Main Draw. The no. 15 seed's progress is likely to be halted in the 2nd round, where he will be facing 2nd seed, Germany's Ovtcharov Dimitrij.

Singapore's Sun Bei Bei and Yu Meng Yu are the 4th and 5th seeds in the Women's Singles Event respectively. Their opponents are relatively easy to be dealt with but only one will progress to the Semi-Finals since they will be meeting one another in the Quarter Finals.

Meanwhile Pang Xue Jie, Ma Liang, Liu Zhong Ze, Sim Kai Xin Zena and Ma Ming Lu will have to compete in the Preliminary Round. Pang Xue Jie is grouped together wih South Korea's Lee Sang Su and Japan's Takakiwa Taku. Both players are ranked higher than him. Ma Liang is drawn together with 2 host nation players, Tsuboguchi Michikazu and Kasahara Hiromitsu. Liu Zhong Ze is unlucky to be grouped with host nation's Matsudaira Kenji and South Korea's Cho Eon Rae.

Zena will also have to overcome strong opposition before qualifying into the main draw. She will have to take on Yang Ha Eun. This South Korean lady has never lost a single match in the ITTF Junior Circuit this year. Her another opponent is Japanese lady Wakamiya Misako. Meanwhile, Ma Ming Lu will have a tough time fighting against Shim Se Rom and Fujii Yuko also from South Korea and Japan respecetively.

In the Doubles Event, Ma Liang/Yang Zi and Sun Bei Bei/Yu Meng Yu are the 2nd and top seeds in the Men's and Women's Doubles Event respectively. Thier challenge will come in the Semi-Finals where Ma Liang/Yang Zi will meet South Koreans Oh Sang Eun/Yoon Jae Young while Sun Bei Bei/Yu Meng Yu will take on host nation's Fukuhara Ai/Ishikawa Kasumi.

China VS World Team Challenge - Tianwei no match against Chinese Teenagers
Defeat in the final match of the contest for Ding Ning at the hands of South Korea’s Kim Kyung Ah but it was the only consolation for the World Team in their duel against Volkswagen China in the Women’s Team Challenge. China won by four matches to one in a contest based on the tried and trusted World Championships Team formula.

Eighteen year old Liu Shiwen gave the Chinese Team the perfect start by recording a three games to nil victory over Kim Kyung Ah. Quite simply against the defensive skills of the Korean, Liu Shiwen was a model of consistency; she played virtually error free. It was the third meeting between the two stars in world ranking events; Liu Shiwen won 2 out of their 3 meetings.

The perfect start for Volkswagen China, Ding Ning increased the lead by beating Feng Tianwei in four games and in doing so, Ding Ning has beaten Feng 3 times in a row this year. One month earlier during the group stage of the 22nd Asian Cup in Hangzhou, she had beaten the Singaporean by a similar margin. And in the Chinese Table Tennis Super League just 2 weeks ago, Feng lost once again in the opening match against Beijing Shi Bo Guo Ji.

China in the ascendancy, Li Xiaoxia proved too consistent for Romania’s Daniela Dodean recording a straight games win and thus maintained her unbeaten record against the rising European star. The two had met on three previous occasions with Li Xiaoxia more authoritative in each meeting. In December 2003, they met in the Girls’ Team event at the first ever World Junior Championships when Li Xiaoxia prevailed in a full distance five games contest but later at senior level Li Xiaoxia was dominant. In 2007, they confronted each other at the Slovenian Open and Liebherr German Open, both times victory in straight games for Li Xiaoxia.

Victory for the host nation assured; Liu Shiwen succeeded in straight games in her first ever meeting with Feng Tianwei leaving Ding Ning and Kim Kyung Ah with the task of bringing matters to a close. The verdict went to Kim Kyung Ah who recovered from a two games to nil deficit to record a close five games success. It was defeat for Ding Ning but a much better performance than when she had previously encountered the Korean defender. She had lost both encounters by four games to one; at the Volkswagen China Open in 2008 and at the Danish Open, earlier this year.

China VS World Team Challenge - Showcase of World Class Table Tennis
Feng Tianwei will be part of the 3 lady team challenging the mighty Chinese on Monday night. She is the highest ranked player, not representing China. Feng recorded her best result at the Beijing Olympic Games, helping Singapore to an historical first ever Olympic medal in team event.

The team is further supported by Romania’s rising star, the most promising young player from Europe, Daniela Dodean. This lady is currently ranked no. 33, and she is a six times European Junior Champion, reached the last 16 in her first year as senior at the World Championships in 2007 in Zagreb. Last but not least, the team is completed with South Korean Kim Kyung Ah. She is the proud owner of 2 Olympic Bronze Medal - one in the Singles, another in the Team event.

The women players will receive assistance and advice by the National Coach of South Korea, the Olympic and World champion, Hyun Jung Hwa, who was the last non-Chinese Women’s Singles World champion 16 years ago.

The Chinese Women's Team is also no pushovers. The team, led by Li Xiaoxia, despite their relatively young age, they have already achieve much under their name. At a young age of 21, Li is already the Chmpion of the 2008 Women's World Cup. In addition, she was the Silver and Bronze Medalist in the Women's Singles Event of the World Championships in 2007 and 2009 respectively.

Her compatriot Liu Shiwen has got great background as well. Only a teenager, she is currently ranked 7th in the World, just behind Feng Tianwei. She won three World Junior Championship titles at the age of 14 in 2004 and five years later reached the semi-finals of the Women’s Singles at the World Championships in Yokohama.

Lastly, Ding Ning who won the Silver Medal in the recent World Championships partnering Guo Yan in the Women's Doubles Event. In 2005 Ding Ning won no less than three gold medals at the World Junior Championships.

On the other hand, the Men's Team could very well be led by 33 year old Vladimir Samsonov owing to his age and vast experience. He is currently ranked 6 in the World, and was the runner up at the World Championships 12 years ago and six times European champion. He is the only one in the World Team who participated at the similar challenge match in 2006.

He will have two team mates from Asia. Korean Joo Se Hyuk (No.9) will guarantee spectacular defensive play which brought him his greatest success in 2003 by reaching the final of the World Championships in Paris. The World men’s team will be completed with the shooting star, Kenta Matsudaira. Being the lowest ranked player (No.61) in the field but what a promising rookie! He is still a junior but he was the Junior World champion three years ago when still of cadet age. One month ago he reached the last 16 at the World Championships in Yokohama coming very close to beat the reigning Olympic champion, Ma Lin.

The Chinese Men's Team will consists Ma Long, Xu Xin and Wang Liqin. Wang Liqin, ranked no.5, won one of his three Men’s Singles World Championships titles in his home town, Shanghai four years ago. This local hero is also part of the Men's Team to clinch the Gold at Beijing last year.

Ma Long, the highest ranked player in the team. At such a young age, he have already attained high recognition in the international arena. He is the Silver Medalist at this year's World Championships in the Men's Doubles Event together with Xu Xin. In addition, he was the Champion in the ASIAN Cup in 2008 and 2009. Just only last year, he won the Men's Singles Title in the Pro Tour Grand Finals in Macao, beating World No. 1 Wang Hao.

ITTF Pro Tour china Open - Gold for Yu Meng Yu
Yu Meng Yu clinch the 1st and only Gold Medal for Singapore after defeating Chinese Taipei's Cheng I-Ching 11-3, 11-6, 11-4, 9-11,11-7 in the U21 Women's Singles Event. The win recorded by Yu Meng Yu was her second title on the ITTF Pro Tour in 2009. Earlier in the year she won the Women’s Singles crown at the Indian Open. On her way to the finals, Yu Meng Yu ousted the Chinese Taipei duo of Liu Yu-Hsin and Chen Szu-Yu to book her place in the semi-finals where she overcame Korea’s Kim Hye Song.

Meanwhile in the Women's Singles Event, South Korea’s Kim Kyung Ah, seeded no.6, proved too secure with her defensive skills for 4th seeded, Feng Tianwei; whilst the South Korean's colleague Park Mi Young proved too stable for teenager Yu Meng Yu. Kim Kyung Ah won 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 11-3 while Park prevailed 5-11, 8-11, 2-11, 11-9, 6-11.

Once again, It is against the defensive art that our female paddlers need to progress. In December 2008, Yu Meng Yu reached the final of the Under 21 Women’s Singles event at the Volkswagen Pro Tour Grand Finals where the backspin play of Japan’s Yuka Ishikgaki totally bamboozled her. Meanwhile Feng Tianwei lost to China defender Fan Ying twice in the Korea and China Open last year.

June World Ranking - Commonwealth Champion Regain Top 10 Position
Winning the Women's Singles Title of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships late last month saw Wag Yue Gu getting into the Top 10 list once again. However, this is at the expense of another paddler Li Jiawei. Yue Gu is now ranked 9th while Li is at no. 11.

For the other 3 female paddlers, there was not much changes. Feng Tianwei and Sun Bei Bei are still at 6th and 31st respectively. Meanwhile, Yu Meng Yu, who upset Sun Bei Bei in the Commonwealth Championships is now at 32nd. Teenagers Sim Kai Xin Zena and Li Siyun Isabelle are ranked 309 and 351 in the world.

Despite winning the Men's Singles Title at the Commonwealth Championships, Gao Ning's World Ranking did not have any significant improvement. He is now ranked at no. 25. On the other hand, Ynag Zi who made an early exit in the same competition is now at 59. Ma Liang, Cai Xiao Li and Liu Zhong Ze are at 125, 152 and 177 respectively. ITTF Pro Tour China Open - Teenager Causes Major Opening Round Shock
The winner on the ITTF Pro Tour earlier in the year in March at the Indian Open and, in late May, the runner up in the Women’s Singles event at the Commonwealth Championships in Glasgow; 19 year old Yu Meng Yu caused the shock of the day at the Harmony China Open in Suzhou.

In the opening round of the Women’s Singles event, she caused the sensation of the day by ousting China’s Guo Yan, the no.3 seed and winner of the Women’s Singles title at the Volkswagen Pro Tour Grand Finals in Macao in December 2008, to book her place in round two. Yu Meng Yu who came through the qualification event successfully recorded a very impressive six games victory. She won 11-8, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7.

Feng Tianwei was in unforgiving mood as well. She beat Chinese Taipei's Lin Chia-Hui to book another place in the 2nd round. However, Sun Bei Bei was the casualty. She lost to South Korean Choi Moon Young. Feng will be aiming to take revenge for Bei Bei tomorrow, while Yu will be taking on South Korean Defender Park Mi Young.

Although our Male paddlers did not make it to the 3rd round, but it was good learning experience. All lost to higher ranked Chinese players. Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Yang Zi lost to Top Seed Ma Long in the 1st and 2nd round respectively. Meanwhile, Tay Jit Kai was defeated by Olympic Champion Ma Lin. Both Chew and Tay feel that they will be able to achieve better results in the coming Asian Youth Games.

Ma Liang, Liu Zhong Ze and Singaporean Pang Xue Jie also perished in he 1st round. Pang lost to Poland's Kosowski Jakub while Ma Liang and Zhong Ze were no match against Keinath Thomas and Jiang Tianyi respectively.

The other 3 athletes includes Bowler New Hui Fen, Swimmer Rainer Ng and Russel Low from the Basketball Team.

Isabelle mentioned in an interview with the 100PLUS that her biggest challenge in the AYG will be facing competition from table tennis powerhouse like China, Japan and Korea. However she will still play her very best, overcoming herself and learn new things through the competition.

Although one will have to make many sacrifices throughout the training, the most important thing is to stay strong and have a positive mindset. Lets wish all the youth paddlers good luck as they embark on their 1st major competition.

ITTF Pro Tour China Open - Lucky Qualifiers but Progress Prove to be Tough
Upsets were few and far between; the order of merit predominantly prevailed. Yu Meng Yu, Ma Liang and Liu Zhong Ze all reserved places in the first round proper. The only one of the trio to experience a reverse was Liu Zong Ze; on the opening day of play he was beaten by Korea’s Cho Eon Rae who confirmed his place as the group winner one day later with victory over Hong Kong’s Li Kwun Ngai. Second place for Liu Zhong Ze but with the top two players guaranteed a place in the main draw, the Singaporean received his visa for entry.

Meanwhile, local born Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Tay Jit Kai manage to secure a place in the opening round. Fate lay in the hands of the lottery, their names were drawn as one of the six “Lucky Losers”. Under the qualification system, the top two players in each group progress to the main draw with six places being available for “Lucky Losers”.

However, they will be facing tough opponents in the Main Draw. World No. 33 Yu Meng Yu will be taking on Pro Tour Final Champion Guo Yan, while Chew and Tay will be facing the Top 2 Seeds in the Men's Singles Event. They are Ma Long and Ma Lin, also from China. ITTF Pro Tour China Open - Daunting Opponents for the Singaporean Princesses of Defensive Art
14 year old Li Siyun Isabelle and 18 year old Sim Kai Xin Zena, two players who have impressed on the ITTF Junior Circuit, found life tough on the first day of play at the Harmony China Open in the southern Chinese city of Suzhou. Competing in the qualification stage of proceedings, both suffered defeats, concluding their group matches against worthy opponents. Zena Sim was beaten by Japan’s Reiko Hiura; whilst Isabelle suffered at the hands of Korea’s Lee Eun Hee. They lost 11-8, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 and 11-5, 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 respectively.

However, neither of the aspiring teenage talents should be too down hearted; both lost to worthy opponents and to adversaries who are more than competent players against those who exploit their skills using the backspin art. Lee Eun Hee can be considered to be one of the very best players in the world when it comes to competing against defenders.
On the one hand, she is accustomed to playing against backspin, the Korean National League possesses a host of fine female defensive players and in the national team two of her compatriots, Kim Kyung Ah and Park Mi Young merit the title “World Class”; arguably they are the two best female defensive players in the world. Furthermore, Lee Eun Hee is more than equipped to play defenders; penhold grip, fast footwork, short pimples; her attacking drive style of play, the ball travelling with minimal topspin, makes life difficult for backspin returns.

Meanwhile, Reiko Hiura is in the traditional textbook attacking style of Japanese play. Consistent, neat, compact, short stroke, well balanced and thoroughly efficient; she has the patience to wear down the adversary and succeed.

The defeats for the Singaporeans were there second reverses of the day. In the opening matches, both had lost to adversaries from Chinese Taipei; Isabelle Li was beaten by Hou Yu-Ling (11-7, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9) whilst Zena Sim lost to Hsiung Nai-I (11-13, 11-9, 5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5).

Defeats for the defenders, there were also defeats for the attackers. Ma Ming Lu, who has been absent in the international arena for a long time, made a disappointing appearance on the first day of competition. She suffered under Korea's Choi Moon Young 11-6, 11-8, 12-10, 11-5, before losing to Chinese Taipei's Cheng I-Ching 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-4,11-13,11-5.

On the other hand, Yu Meng Yu, the highest female world ranked player in action on the opening day and a player who had impressed at the recent Commonwealth Championships in the Scottish city of Glasgow, did not have to raise her racket in anger; owing to the non appearance of her intended adversary, Congo Democratic’s Amma Litobka.

In the Men's Singles Group Event, local paddlers continue their woes. Pang Xue Jie, Chew Zhe Yu Clarence and Tay Jit Kai ended their day with defeats from higher ranked adversaries. Pang was no match against South Korea's Jo Ji Hoon. He lost 11-5, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7. Chew Zhe Yu Clarence was another victim by the Koreans. He lost to Jeong Sang Eun 11-7, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8. Meanwhile, Tay Jit Kai was crashed by North Korea's Kim Song Nam. Tay only won a total of 12 points in the 4 games. He lost 11-1, 11-5, 11-1, 11-5.

However, the more experienced colleagues enjoyed better fortunes. Ma Liang enjoyed a walkover before defeating Kim Dong Hyun 11-9, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9. Liu Zhong Ze lost to South Korea's Cho Eon Rae 11-5, 3-11, 12-14, 2-11,10-12. He managed to recover to defeat Hong Kong's teenager Li Kwun Ngai 20-18, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9,11-6.

The Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles Qualification will continue tomorrow.

ASIAN Youth Games - Local Paddlers to Buck the Trend
The inaugural Asian Youth Games (AYG), which will be held in Singapore this coming June, provides a unique opportunity to showcase our efforts in grooming our local talents.

With the selection of an all-Singaporean youth team to represent our nation at the AYG, it can be considered as a step in the right direction. The team consists of four promising local players: Clarence Chew, 14; Tay Jit Kiat, 14; Isabelle Li, 14; and Chau Haiqing, 15.

The former three have already displayed glimpses of their potential, most recently at the 11th Thailand Sports School Games held last year. Chew and Tay got first and second place respectively in the Under 14 Boys Singles category, while Li was the champion in the Under 14 Girls Singles category.

Arguably the most promising member of the team, Li also came in 1st at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games, besting a glittering field of 42 international competitors to clinch the title.

Chau, on the other hand, has been playing for the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA). After earning 1st place in the mixed doubles category during the National B' Division Tournament, Chau clearly fancies her chances in the mixed doubles event that has been included for the sport at the AYG.

The AYG Table Tennis competition will consist of four events- Girls Singles, Boys Singles, Mixed Doubles and Mixed Team.

The Mixed Team event is seldom held at Table Tennis tournaments. With the choice of choosing all four paddlers to participate, the need to strategise and plan for match-ups in advance will add an element of unpredictability, making it a must-see event during this AYG.

The competition will be held at the newly furnished Toa Payoh Sports Hall, which had previously hosted the South East Asian (SEA) Games table tennis competition in 2003.

Playing at home, the team will certainly look to put in a good performance in front of their home fans. With a promising future ahead of them, the AYG will provide these local born and bred paddlers with a platform to put their skills to the test, and do Singapore proud at the Games.

ETTCL - WANG Yue Gu signed for Linz AG Froschberg
Wang Yue Gu will be playing for 2008-2009 ECL winner, Linz AG Froschberg in the new season of the European Table Tennis League. The Singaporean sportswoman put her signature to her new contract for 2009/2010 European Champions League season in Linz.

The defending champion will have a very stong line-up in the next season again, with Wang Yue Gu, Liu Jia, Iveta Vacenovska and another 2 players, which has not yet been decided. Perhaps Li Qiangbing and Zhu Hong will also be member of this team. Both were part of the winning team last year. However the Team Manager Günther Renner has only confirmed three players (Susi, Wang and Vacenovska) until now.

The Chinese born, Wang had twelve memorable winning and only six losing games in the last season, but she was defeated by Liu Jia three times.
