"海外兵团"面临全球禁赛 沙拉拉力求乒坛平衡发展
   正在广州主持2008团体世乒赛抽签仪式的国际乒联主席沙拉拉表示,国际乒联将在下月举行的全体代表大会上,投票表决如何应对日益突出的“海外兵团”问题。一旦提案通过,超过21周岁的选手,将不能参加世界大赛。

  日前,前国青队队员唐娜更改国籍代表韩国参赛一事,在国内引起广泛关注。男队主教练刘国梁昨天也被问到了这一话题。“她既然选择了代表韩国队参加比赛,肯定也想代表韩国队取得好成绩。从运动员的角度来说并没有错。但是从她目前的实力来说,我估计(奥运金牌)也就是喊喊口号而已,真正要对中国女队构成威胁很难,只要中国队重视起来,还是应该有明显的优势。”

  国际乒联最关注的不是因唐娜转去韩国闹得沸沸扬扬的“祖国论”,但越来越多“海外兵团”的出现,正引起国际乒联的重视。

  “以去年的女子世界杯为例,16名选手中,13个是中国人,其中还有一名选手代表的是非洲的刚果,我个人认为,这名选手不太可能在非洲生活,也许是刚果协会出钱聘请她作为代表的,像这种情况就应该加以限制。”沙拉拉说。

  而国际乒联初步的对策,将是规定21周岁以上更改国籍的运动员,将不能参加世界大赛;15-18岁需在新协会注册满3年,18-21周岁需注册满5年,方可获得参加世界杯、世锦赛、奥运会等大赛的资格。这一提案将在2月27日的国际乒联全体代表大会上进行表决。

  沙拉拉在任期间,一向热衷于推行变革,致力于国际乒坛的平衡发展。在谈到“海外兵团”这一问题时,沙拉拉表示,这并不是中国的“专利”,在罗马尼亚也存在这一问题。如希腊的格林卡,就是从罗马尼亚青年队走出来的。而近年来,“海外兵团”也屡次制造经典战例。如雅典奥运会上,代表新加坡的李佳薇淘汰王楠,就是其中之一。

  “海外兵团”的出现,一方面推动了国际乒坛的多极发展,但过度泛滥也会带来一定的负面影响。

  沙拉拉举例说:“比如一名35岁的中国女选手,她在中国已经结束了她的职业生涯,但她到加拿大依然能打全国第一,代表加拿大去参加奥运会,这对加拿大的年轻选手是个打击。”因此,国际乒联想出了对转会年龄作出限制这一“绝招”。
  一旦该提案被通过,受到冲击最大的将是中国香港队。雅典奥运会上,中国香港队参赛的8名运动员中,只有梁柱恩和桑亚婵拥有特区身份,连获得奥运男双银牌的李静/高礼泽也不符合标准。据了解,目前中国香港女队的帖雅娜、林菱等主力持有的还是内地身份证。

  刘国梁说:“国际乒联这个举措也是希望发展世界乒乓球运动,太多中国运动员代表别的国家参加比赛,也会影响其他国家发展的积极性。因为从发展的角度来说,‘海外兵团’只能在短时期内帮助他们成绩有一些进步,但是想长时期地与中国抗衡还是不够,还是应该发展本国力量。”

  据悉,该提案将于2月27日进行表决,只要2/3的与会代表赞成即可通过。但即使通过,真正实施恐怕也要在
北京奥运会之后。

Training in Japan
Our paddlers will not be participating in the first ITTF Pro Tour Tornament of 2008 - Solvenian Open, instead they are currently training in Japan, in preparation for the Beijing Olympics in August!

World Team Table Tennis Championships 2008
Singapore will be sending her strongest team ever to this year's World Team Table Tennis Championships in preparation for the upcoming Beijing Olympics.

Our female team, which attained 9th position 2 years back, is being led by Li Jia Wei, Sun Bei Bei, Tan Paey Fern Sharon and Yu Meng Yu. They are currently being ranked 2nd in the World by the ITTF, just behind China. Our female paddlers has also been showing excellent results recently. They achieve 2nd place in the 18th Asian Table Tennis Championships and 1s place in the 24th SEA Games!

Our Male paddlers are just as fantastic. They have won the 1st place in the recent SEA Games as well. Our team made up of Cai Xiao Li, Gao Ning, Pang Xue Jie, Wong Hong Wei Daniel and Yang Zi is also ranked 1 of the top 10 teams in the World!

South East Asia Table Tennis Olympic Qualification 2008
Come 2nd February, top paddlers in the South East Asia region will be congregating in Singapore to battle it out for the prized and precious spot in the Beijing Olympics 2008.




Catch top players like Muhammad Hussein, Yon Mardiyono, Christine Ferliana (Indonesia), Muangsuk Anisara, Sanguansin Phuchon (Thailand) and Ng Sock Khim and Chiu Soo Jiin (Malaysia) as well as Nguyen Nam Hai and Mai Hoang My Trang (Vietnam)!

Cai Xiao Li and Feng Tian Wei represent Singapore in the Men's and Women's Singles Event respectively. 21 year old Feng Tian Wei beat 23 year old Sun Bei Bei to represent Singapore in the Beijing Olympics.

Spectators will be treated to high standards of table tennis and can expect nothing less than adrenaline-charged matches as the paddlers go all out to win that exclusive spot in the Olympics.

Beijing Olympics 2008 - Direct Qualifiers

Yang Zi made it to the top 20 qualifiers list last minute. And with his qualification, Singapore, together with China and Hong Kong has gained all the 4 spots avalible for the Men's and Women's Singles Events for this year's Beijing Olympics.

Gao Ning, Li Jia Wei and Wang Yue Gu also made it to the Direct Qualification List. They are all ranked Top 10 in the World.

Cai Xiao Li and Sun Bei Bei will have to take part in the South East Asia Olympic Regional Qualifications or the Asian Olympic Qualifying to qualify and take part in this year's Olympics.

National Grand Finale 2007 - Singles' Event Results
Lim Pei Xin Jenn is the biggest winner in this year's Grand Finale, having sweep all 3 Gold Medals in the Women's Singles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles Event.

In the finals of the Women's Singles Event, Jenn faced doubles' partner, Sim Kai Xin Zena and the game was stretch to the full 7 games.

Men's Singles was as exciting as the game sees Cai Xiao Li playing against Yang Zi. In the end, the more experienced Xiao Li defeated the left handed Yang Zi, 4-1.
