ASIAN Championship 2007 - Women's Team reach Finals!
China and Singapore reached the final of the Women's Team event at the Asian Championships in Yangzhou following impressive semi-final victories on Tuesday 18th September 2007. Both fixtures were resolved by the margin of three matches to nil; the victors were clearly focused on the task in hand and duly succeeded. The reigning World champions, China, overcame defending Asian champions Hong Kong, whilst Singapore ended the hopes of Japan.

Victory for was to be somewhat expected but the impressive manner in which Singapore defeated Japan was not to be expected.Wang Yue Gu set the tone; she had no problems with the fast backhand attacks of Ai Fukuhara and won in quick-fire style.

Similarly, in the next match, there was a quick end to matters. Li Jia Wei beat Haruna Fukuoka, a player against whom she has experienced dreadful problems in the past. Haruna Fukuoka started as favourite but play tactically astute Li Jia Wei controlled proceeding from start to finish.Controlled topspins to the backhand, the side of the racket which has long pimples and to the forehand fast attacks; the plan worked to perfection.

Singapore in the driving seat Sun Bei Bei ended matters by beating Sayaka Hirano, the Japanese player offered the most resistance all but it was not to beThe two had met at the Liebherr Chile Open earlier in the year when Sayaka Hirano had won en route to her runners up spot. In Yangzhou, Sun Bei Bei extracted revenge.

Wang Yue Gu beat Ai Fukuhara 11-1, 11-3, 11-4, Li Jia Wei overcame Haruna Fukuoka 11-4, 11-6, 11-3 and Sun Bei Bei defeated Sayaka Hirano 11-6, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7.
